Debbie’s Swim School: Identity & Design

Debbie of Debbie's Swim School enlisted A Create Co to create a fun and energetic brand for all levels of swimmers.  With many years of experience as a swim teacher and instructor, it was time for her brand to reflect the level of professionalism and fun they bring to the pool every day.  We created an aqua-themed design and that can be carried through all print and digital designs and publications.

“Go Green”: Eco-Friendly Baby Shower

The Theme: "Go Green" - An Eco-Friendly Baby Shower

Robin came to me wanting something that would represent her, her baby, and their preferred lifestyle. She wanted all-natural, low waste, recycled and low cost. I jumped at the idea of coming up with something that would show the beauty and elegance for this earthy approach to a baby shower.

Invitations:

Challenged with conveying the eco theme to the shower guests, I wrote a poem. It talked about the registry, gently-used gifts and the details of the shower. I also included a prize for most creative NON-wrapping paper. Then, I printed it on recycled paper, made bands out of brown paper bags, and flowers out of water-colored newspaper and natural twine.

Decor:

I created decorations out of newspaper, twine and other recycled goods that I had around the house and what Robin and her family had - vases, jars, trays, etc.  There were newspaper pomanders hanging from the ceiling, newspaper flowers in vases, and pennant banners across the room made from used khaki pants. I also created a "locally grown" and "baby" banner out of magazine pages.

Food:

We went with an earthy, whole grains, all natural light meal for this afternoon party. We used a lot of fresh vegetables, pita and hummus, a huge salad with a light dressing sunflower seeds, beets, carrots and all sorts of deliciousness. Plus, a fruit and pasteurized cheese tray. I designed and made these custom cupcakes (A Cupcake Co.) with grassy green tops and abstract flower fondant rounds on top. They were all natural whole grain fresh carrot cake with salted caramel, orange infused cream cheese and buttercream. Since this shower was honoring a baby girl, we named them "Sugar, Spice and Carrotly Nice Cupcakes".

Activity:

Not a big fan of party games, Robin decided a community quilt sounded like a more appealing option for an activity. I designed stencils in her preferred theme for the quilt. There were birds, woodland animals, trees, etc from which to choose, and the guests also had the option to design their own, if they were feeling especially creative.

Favors:

Re-usable grocery bags. Hung on Robin's late grandfather's coat rack.

This Bliss Life Blog: Logo Design

I was approached by the lovely "T" recently from the beautiful blog This Bliss Life. She asked me to help create a new logo to give a new brand and identity to her blog. She only had a few criteria - butterflies and aqua. I jumped at the chance to create a whimsical logo that would match the beautiful, clean approach to her blog.

Zemya Photography: Website Design

Ava of Zemya Photography needed some creative assistance to update the design of her Blogger-based website. Her primary goal was to update the background and making the portfolio imagery larger in size. We were simply updating the template or "skin" of the base design.

Using her already-established branding colors, theme and guidelines I worked to freshen up the design, making the tones brighter and incorporate more of the slate blue tones of her new CD packaging. I also incorporated touches of the intersecting circle that is reflective of the logo.

CR Willis Consulting

A start-up consulting company asked me if I would assist them in creating a timeless, professional logo to use on business cards, promotional advertising and letterhead. My goal was to create a logo that was eye-catching, memorable and classic. Creating a iconic and sweeping 'W' as the icon helped add elegance and interest to the structure of the company name.

“Two-By-Two”: Twin Baby Shower

Crystal was pregnant with her first baby - times two! Twins! She was planning to decorate the nursery in a Noah's Ark "Two-By-Two" theme and wanted the shower to reflect the same theme. Keying off her theme, the nursery bedding and the Meri Meri "Animal Parade" party goods, I started incorporating touches of animals, arks and two of everything.

Invitations:

We started the twin and Noah's Ark theme early by using animal designs on the invitation. The animals were from Meri Meri and the bird was illustrated from the nursery bedding. At the bottom of this double layered invitation, we used the quote "Twice the blessing. Twice the fun. Two little blessings instead of one."

Decor:

I created baby blocks using the same animals found throughout the party. I made them to say "babies" for the twins. I also placed fresh flowers and used the "Daring Book for Boys" as a touch of color and to welcome the twin boys. The onsies being used for the activity were also used as an added element of decor.

Food:

We went with light, luncheon fare with fresh vegetables, homemade pita with falafel, strawberry and ham wraps, and fresh fruit.  I designed and made these custom cupcakes (A Cupcake Co.) with fondant animals on top.

Activity:

Crystal decided not to go with traditional party games, so we opted to have people create onsies for the babies to come. With twins, a new mom cannot have enough onsies!  We also set out a large vase of Mother's Animal Cookies and had people guess how many animals were in the vase.

Favors:

Bags of soft animal sugar cookies handmade by A Cupcake Co.
